Are you ready for Super Bowl 2016? Football Close Up on FieldThis Sunday, February 7th, the Denver Broncos meet the Carolina Panthers for the 50th Super Bowl. The game airs at 6:35PM Eastern Time on CBS, and if you’re like most people we know you’re probably getting ready to eat and drink your way through the game. Here are some recipes in case you’re looking for some variety……

There are lots of ways to make guacamole, but they all start with mashed ripe avocado. To that you can add to taste 1) red onion, diced tomato, diced serrano chili peppers, garlic, lime juice and salt — if you want it spicy, or 2) minced jalapeno, crumbled blue cheese, crumbled bacon, lime juice and salt — if you want it loaded like a baked potato, or 3) pureed thawed frozen green peas, lime juice, minced pickled jalapeno, minced garlic and salt — if you want it “light”.

Chips piled with various toppings are always popular game food. Traditional nachos start with tortilla chips and toppings including cooked ground beef or pork, shredded pepper jack cheese, sliced chili peppers, sour cream, salsa and guacamole. But you can switch things up and make 1) seafood nachos with tortilla chips, cooked shrimp, shredded crabmeat, pepper jack cheese, diced red and green bell peppers, guacamole, pickled jalapenos and pineapple-mango salsa, or 2) greek nachos with pita chips, red pepper hummus, cooked ground lamb, red onion, tzatziki sauce, crumbled feta cheese, black olives, diced tomato, diced cucumber and parsley, or 3) pork galore nachos with tortilla chips, monteray jack cheese, pulled pork, crumbled bacon, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream and cilantro.

Try making your own instead of buying it! Start with refrigerated pizza dough, top it with pizza sauce and add 1) for Mexican pizza – pepper jack cheese, cooked chorizo sausage, carnitas, red onion, guacamole, sour cream and cilantro, or 2) for mushroom pizza – shredded italian cheese blend, sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions and parsley, or 3) for something completely different – sauteed shredded brussel sprouts, crumbled bacon, diced shallots and shredded gruyere cheese.

Enjoy the game and the half-time show!
