The town of Paoli, adjacent to Malvern and Berwyn along the “Main Line”, originally grew around an inn kept by Joshua Evans, whose father bought 500 acres from William Penn in 1719. It is situated along the former Philadelphia-Lancaster Turnpike, now known as U.S. Route 30. For a very long time the western bound trains out of Philadelphia ended at the Paoli Station; train service now extends well beyond Paoli. The actual town of Paoli covers only 2 square miles.
