Coatesville

The only city in Chester County, Coatesville grew around the Brandywine Iron Works & Nail Factor, a forerunner of the Lukens Steel Company which provided steel beams for the World Trade Center in NYC. During the 1960’s Lukens Steel was the largest employer in the county with over 10,000 workers. As the steel industry in Coatesville declined, so did the city until an ambitious redevelopment project brought in such things as new housing developments, mixed use projects and renovation of the local Amtrak station.
