Chadds Ford

Chadds Ford is a semi-rural community located on the banks of the Brandywine Creek, and is home to many historic sites. Famous residents of the area include NC Wyeth and his son Andrew Wyeth; many of their works are displayed in the Brandywine River Museum. The land around Chadds Ford was inhabited by the Lenni Lenape Indians centuries before the Europeans arrived, but by 1700 most of the area residents were English Quakers. One major but brief event, the Battle of Brandywine, was fought here and affected the development of the Township and the course of the American Revolution.
